VAUTE FABRICS GUIDE//
Since our mission is create a better coat- it means we are using fabrics you probably haven't seen before. We aim to pioneer outerwear that is at once high in ethics, technology/protection, and design, and we wouldn't be here if not for you! But I know that makes it hard for you to know exactly what fabrics feel or look like as you're ordering them- in fact, it may be the first time this fabric is commercially produced, or constructed in this way, or used for this purpose.
Organic Moleskin (Insulated with Primaloft ECO & Teijin Ripstop Liner)
Feels like: A smooth soft hand- like classic cotton velvet but matte finish. No stretch, is structured like a classic dress coat.
Looks like: A classic vintage winter coat, sophisticated, and great for work and over dresses and suits.
Made of: (100% vegan) 100% Organic Cotton, Insulated with 100 gram Primaloft ECO (made of recycled synthetic fibers), and lined in Teijin Ripstop (made of 100% recycled closed loop zero waste fibers)
Weatherproof Qualities: Shell is rain and snow repellent, and with the insulation and ripstop liner, this coat is rain and snow resistant, windproof, and warm enough for below freezing weather for most people.
Appropriate for: Winter in cold cities that have a lot of snow and some rain. Our VAUTE Signature Winter Dress coats are WARMER THAN WOOL, because they are insulated & have a windproof liner, but stay slim and flattering like a wool coat.
Care: You can machine wash your Organic Moleskin coat and dry on low, or dry clean (Eco dry clean please!). Use a lint brush too.
VAUTE Snow Coats
Feels like: A comforter- comfy, soft, and insulated.
Looks like: A down jacket but not as puffy. Our Primaloft ECO insulation is slim, but it's a down alternative invented by the army and is high tech to be warm while not puffy, so it's flattering, and great for travel.
Made of: Shell and liner is made of 100% recycled closed loop zero waste fibers, a Teijin ripstop, and the insulation is 200 gram Primaloft ECO, made of recycled synethic fibers as well. Quilting for some snow coat styles is done in New York.
Weatherproof Qualities: Water and Snow Resistant, Windproof, and Insulated
Appropriate for: Winter in cold cities with snow and rain.
Care: Machine wash on low alone, dry on cold. Or (eco) dry clean.
Looks like: Similar look to a vintage leather- waxed canvas ages with a special look, the more it gets worn in the better.
Made of: Our waxed canvas is made in America and is a cotton fabric base made with an organic vegan wax. The fleece inside is Polartec- high tech comfy warmth made of synthetic fibers. The Lilac and Black liners are made of recycled fibers.
Weatherproof Qualities: Water resistant + Wind resistant waxed shell.
Appropriate for: Spring/Fall
Care: DO NOT WASH our waxed coats! Hand wash with a wet sponge.
Lastly- some basic Q&A!
Is everything vegan?
YES, I've been vegan for 15 years. I put my life savings (and going on 6 wonderful challenging intense self-funded years!) into this line because I wanted to create something better than wearing animals. Everything is 100% vegan.
Where is your apparel made?
Everything we make: outerwear, dresses, button downs, felt hats, are currently produced in NYC. Currently we screenprint on blanks from Alternative Apparel, American Apparel, etc. but soon we will make our own. And sometimes we partner with other brands to create something we don't make ourselves- like jewelry (i.e. Christy Robinson handmakes hers in Texas) or boots (with BHAVA, made in SPAIN).
Why do you use fabrics made of recycled plastic bottles? Why isn't everything organic?
A few reasons :) 1. I would love to use organic all the time! And we use organic fibers whenever possible, most of our Spring-Summer clothing is made of all organic cotton fibers, you should check it out! :) To create the warmest most protective outerwear we can, we use high technology fabrics which are made often of 100% recycled plastic bottles, or closed loop zero waste fibers, to create something better than wearing animals and conventional fabrics, and to achieve the look and feel of a dress coat but the warmth of a sporty winter coat.
2. Most waste in the world is industrial waste, and it is important to me to find a use for that waste, as well as consumer waste, so we use both closed loop zero waste fibers (industrial waste) and recycled plastic bottles (consumer and industrial waste.)
Do you have a warranty?
We want you to LOVE your coat so much! Our coats come with a 1 year warranty. Details are here.
Okay I hope that helps! I've given my all to create this line, and we wouldn't be here if not for you. So thank you from the bottom of my heart for your support, for even thinking about buying a coat from us, because it does support all of our team, the cut and sew teams we work with in America, the cutting edge fabric mills, and the other artists we work with around the world who love the Earth and animals as much as we do. You make this all possible.
